My sister and I had a fantastic day out with John, exploring wineries in the Mornington Peninsula. Convenient pick up spot at the NGV and was made to feel welcome and comfortable by John. He was a polite, personable and knowledgeable guide and offered us wine tasting tips and information about the wines as we went along. Would highly recommend this tour to everyone!
Just an hour’s drive south of Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula features a stunning maritime coastline and distinguished cool climate wineries. On this tour we visit the wineries in the foothills of Red Hill.
Your tour commences with our first tasting at Crittenden Wines
Crittenden Estate has a large portfolio of traditional and alternative varieties all made on the family farm.
Here you are introduced into a new and exciting format of wine tasting which replaces the old stand at the bar; swirl, sniff, spit model. Upon being seated in their brand new purpose built Wine Centre you are presented with a menu. From this you can select a flight of wines which you will be expertly guided through by a knowledgeable and passionate team member. (A flight of wine is five wines based around a theme, in this case either a variety, range or a mix from across the portfolio.) This is a very civilised way of tasting wines.
Rollo Crittenden, the winemaker, has a passion for traditional varietals and loves experimenting with alternative grapes varieties from across Italy and Spain
This new way of wine tasting will get your taste buds going.

From Crittenden Wine Centre we take a short drive to our second winery and lunch venue, Blue Stone Lane Winery and Veraison
The Mornington Peninsula’s reputation as one of Australia’s leading wine and food regions is evident at Bluestone Lane Winery and Veraison Restaurant, where every meal is prepared from local, seasonal produce. Vegetables are from their own organic garden.
At Bluestone Lane Winery, varietal plantings include Pinot Grigio & Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Pinot Meunier. The cool climate of the area is assured to provide a stunning crop of bright & vibrant fruit, the hallmark of their wines. Here you can also taste an Australian classic, Sparkling Shiraz and two exceptional stickies that you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere: a Late Harvest Pinot Grigio and a Pinot Noir Liqueur.
After a fabulous two-course lunch and a wine tasting, we head to Quealy, a very unique and rustic vineyard.
Quealy Winery Cellar Door conducts their tasting amongst amphora and barrels. Established by winemakers Kevin McCarthy & Kathleen Quealy, they make the widest most colourful range of Mornington Peninsula wine. From their portfolio of five vineyards they create a most stylish Pinot Grigio, modern “natural” Friulano, powerful ripe single vineyard Pinot Gris and Noir, Late Harvest Muscat and on occasions hand disgorge batches of perfumed cuvees made from Moscato Giallo.

After a short drive we now visit Merricks General Store for another (if you are up to it) comprehensive wine tasting of Elgee Park Estate & Baillieu Vineyard Wines and a coffee and cake!
Established in 1924 as a community hub, Merricks General Store is now a cellar door featuring wines from Elgee Park, Baillieu Vineyard & wines from the neighbours.
At Merricks General Store we shall enjoy an afternoon tea with cake lovingly prepared by the locals.
If time permits and you are up to it you can also enjoy another wine tasting.
After a day of delicious wine tastings and exquisite food on our Mornington Peninsula winery tour, we now head back to Melbourne.
Please note that due to timings, you may not always be able to visit all the wineries on the itinerary.
If you love gourmet food and fine wine, and a bit of exercise, our Nagambie wine tour is for you.
