I joined Wine and Food Lovers Tours for their Wine, Ale, Cider and Food Experience in the Yarra Valley. I joined the group as a single traveler and was immediately made to feel welcome and at ease by Patricia, the guide and owner of the tour company. Patricia was warm and very knowledgeable about the history of the wine region, methods of wine making and provided interesting bits of information as we went through our day. The reception we received at the various wineries and restaurants we visited was fantastic and it was clear that Wine and Food Lovers Tours is very well respected in the region because pretty much everybody knew Patricia personally and welcomed us like friends. Great value for money and a definite must do for anyone who wants to explore the Yarra Valley like a local!
Note: On this itinerary we have various options regarding lunch, Coldstream Brewery/Hargreaves Hill or Meletos at Napoleone Brewers. Due to timing constrictions and opening times of breweries, we may not get to all breweries listed below.
Kellybrook Winery is the first producer of ciders in the Yarra Valley. Phil and Gus Kelly have been involved in cider making since the 1960s.
Kellybrook is also known for its champagne cider and apple brandy.
Their cider is made from fresh Yarra Valley apples and pears, crushed on site with a traditional rack-and-cloth press, resulting in fantastic ciders.
Kellybrook has now launched their new beer, called Riders. They have three available, Easy Rider, XPA and Loose Trucks.
Your journey continues through the stunning countryside of the Yarra Valley to the next stop at Coldstream Brewery.
It began as the dream of five friends who dreamt of producing boutique beers, after tasting some European whilst on a trip. Coldstream Brewery offers a tasting paddle with a variety of beers, such as a lager, pils, ale and cider. One to note is the Grand Porter, a delicious, smooth and creamy dark ale.
After a hop, skip and a jump the journey continues for a tasting at Napoleone Brewers.
Napoleone Brewers has been producing ciders since 2008. Napoleone Brewers cider is distinctly Australian in style using predominantly old, traditional Australian fruit from the Napoleone’s Yarra Valley orchard.
It is only in the last few months that Napoleone Brewers started brewing beers – the Breakneck Porter, a wonderful winter beer and an American Pale Ale, an easy drinking beer.
This family-owned brewery and restaurant in Yarra Glen features handcrafted ales and lager made from the finest ingredients.
After lunch there are several tour options listed below. Timings, combined with client consultation dictates where the tour takes you next.
Named after escaped convict William Buckley, this brewery is tucked away in the industrial estate, with cellar door hospitality and beer making tours amidst the brewing process. Very unique.
These beers are made with malted barley, yeast, hops, Healesville’s spring fed water supply and traditional brewing techniques.
At St Ronans you will be able to taste an Apple and Pear Sparkling made in the “Methode Traditionelle”. On tasting is also a St Ronans Cider, which has won quite a few accolades.
In addition, you can enjoy Blueberry Wines, a Blueberry Sparkling and a Blueberry Muscat – very different.
After a day of exquisite fabulous Yarra Valley cider and ale trail journey and local fare, you head back to Melbourne.
Please note, that due to time constrictions you may not always get to all the locations as listed above.
