My friend and I had a wonderful day in the Yarra Valley with Patricia. Patricia’s knowledge of the wineries and the area in general is informative and interesting.I would highly recommend this tour. Great personal service, great wine, fantastic food and extremely yummy chocolate to finish the day. What more can two BFF’s ask for.
Just an hour’s drive north east of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley features stunning countryside and wineries.
Your day commences with our first tasting at Coldstream Hills.
Our wine tasting tour starts at Coldstream Hills, a winery established by renowned wine writer and author, James Halliday. Coldstream Hills has grown to be one of Australia’s leading small wineries, situated amidst the close-planted vineyards, which are the signature of the region.
With a reputation for producing an outstanding range of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Varietal and Reserve wines, you are sure to enjoy a memorable visit to Coldstream Hills winery.
Our next winery is Squitchy Lane.
This seven-hectare vineyard features 35 year-old vines, which produce fruit with intense flavours. Owner Mike Fitzpatrick named the winery after Squitchy Lane in Oxford, England, where he lived whilst studying. This is also when he got the taste for wines from Europe’s finest single vineyards.
You’ll enjoy the tastes of their Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Merlot as well as their unique Fume Blanc.
Next, we take a short drive to Oakridge Wines for our lunch and a tasting.
Our winery tour is also about having a delicious food experience. This is why why our tasting tour stops at Oakridge Wines. They’ve been making wine in the Yarra Valley since 1978 and have evolved as an outstanding winery, regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and supported by a welcoming, and now refurbished cellar door and restaurant, with wonderful views across the vineyard and the valley.
Oakridge Wines stretches across 10 hectares of vines and is a family owned estate. You’ll enjoy the flavours of their Chardonnays, Pinot Noir and their stunning Syrah.
Winery of the Year 2012 -The Age & Sydney Morning Herald
Oakridge has been awarded the accolade of “Hottest Regional Restaurant in The Weekend Australian
August 13, 2016.”
With lunch over, you can taste more wines at Pimpernel Vineyard.
Pimpernel Vineyard is another small family winery, featuring a unique cellar door. Pimpernel’s techniques produce intensely flavoured wines due to cane pruning, shoot thinning, canopy management and selective harvesting.
Some wines on offer are the icons of the Yarra Valley, the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but also a Syrah, Cabernet Merlot and many more.
Pimpernel Vineyard is an experience…
From Pimpernel Vineyard there is a short drive to Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery
Passionate foodies Ian and Leanne Neeland have developed a destination where one can delight in the experience of tasting, seeing and indulging in quality chocolate products. Set on 16 hectares amongst one of Australia’s premium wine regions and surrounded by the picturesque valley, an emerging orchard and sweeping lawns, the Chocolaterie is an experience you won’t forget. You can watch the art of chocolate making from handcrafting to handpacking and meet the European chocolatiers who will amaze with their chocolate creations. The delicious product range features fruits and nuts picked from the Chocolaterie’s own orchard of cherries, plums, apricots, citrus, quince and almonds, locally sourced provisions and the best quality, Belgian couverture chocolate including a selection of single origin and organic couvertures. Not to forget, on offer is a fantastic range of chocolate truffles, ice cream and Australian native plant chocolates.
After a day of delicious wine tastings, exquisite vineyards and a wonderful chocolate truffle tasting, you now head back to Melbourne.
Please note that due to timings, we may not always be able to visit all the wineries on the itinerary! During the week some wineries may be closed in which case we visit an alternative winery.
